My father came to the UK 1956 to study at the London School of Economics (LSE). Being a poet/writer he wrote letters to his brother about life in London. My mother whose sister was married to my dad’s brother would love reading these letters. They met & fell in love.
Telephone Wedding
My mother was in Karachi, my father in London. They were 8,000 km apart, so they got married over the telephone and saw each other for the first time as a married couple on 22nd July 1961, when my mother arrived in the UK. An interesting part of our family history is that 15 years later, on their wedding anniversary, I (their 4th child and only daughter) was born. 31 yrs after they first saw each other as a married couple on 22nd July 1992, my mother saw him for the last time at his funeral.
